As we enter that wonderful winter holiday season full of cheer and celebration with friends and family, we have our own way of marking the occasion with our annual December Holiday Meeting! As some of you heard at our November meeting, we will be having a change location over to Boatyard Brewing Company. The meeting date and time will be the same: December 16th and 7pm.
This is a friendly reminder that we will be holding our monthly meeting this coming Monday, November 18th. As always, we will be meeting at Old Dog Tavern and will start promptly at 7:00pm as we have much to cover. Mark Pangle will be giving presentation on all-grain brewing. If you currently do extract or partial mash, this will be a good introduction to the process. If you already do all-grain, you might hear some new information or get a chance to share your experiences.
We want to give a big congratulations member David Lyman on winning the 4th annual Bell's homebrew competition with his Citra and Simcoe pale ale. We also want to commend members Beau Preston & Bret Wagner, Drew Doster, Aaron Hoffmann and Jay VanBuskirk for placing in the top 12. A great showing for the club!
Tomorrow is the day! The first brews will start at 10am. All are welcome to either participate or spectate. If you are interested in brewing, please get in touch with Chris Elston (chris@klob.org). And don't worry, there will be plenty of time to get to a TV to watch the UM/MSU game!
Thanks to everyone who attend our meeting this past Monday. Please take a moment to give us your feedback via SurveyMonkey so we can continue to make our meetings fun and interesting.
We are partnering once again with Bell's General Store to host a "Learn to Homebrew Day" on Saturday, November 2nd. Festivities will begin at 10am and go until 4pm.
This is a friendly reminder that we will be holding our normal monthly meeting this coming Monday, October 21st at Old Dog Tavern in downtown Kalamazoo. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00pm. This month's topic is Alternative IPAs which will cover some of the "up and coming" variations that are pushing the boundaries of this classic style. Commercial examples will be provided but if you have some your own homebrewed versions, feel free to bring them in to share.
In an effort to help those brewers who are new to competitions and improve the quality and diversity beer brewed by the club, we are pleased to announce a new annual event: THE KALAMAZOO KUP. For this inaugural year, this competition will be exclusively for KLOB members. You can submit 1 entry to any of the 23 major BJCP beer categories with a maximum to 3 total entries. You will need to submit two 12 ounce bottles for each entry.
This is another quick reminder about the Bell's Expo tomorrow, Saturday the 14th at the Eccentric Cafe starting 11am. There will be several vendors on hand as well as our club to chat about all things homebrewing. You will also be able to pickup free wort for their annual competition.
