January Meeting and Other Announcements

January Meeting

This is a friendly reminder that we have our normal meeting this coming Monday, January 20th. As previously announced, this meeting will be at Boatyard Brewing Company.

We will begin the formal program at 7pm as normal. This month's presentation will be lagering given by Hilary Stearns. Afterwards, you are free to socialize but we ask that everyone be on their merry way by 9pm. Homebrew is welcome but must be kept to 3 oz. samples to continue to meet the letter of the law. BBC does not serve food so if you want to bring a light snack, you are free to do so.

Paw Paw Brewing Anniversary and Competition

Paw Paw Brewing Company is looking to celebrate their third anniversary, which will take place on tomorrow, Saturday January 18th, in a very special way by kicking off their very own homebrew competition.  The winner will get to recreate their beer on Paw Paw's 5 bbl system. For the small entry fee of $20 you will receive:

  • 5 gallons of wort prepared from their own brewhouse
  • 2 oz. of your choice of hops
  • Choice of yeast

You can use these and any other ingredients to make your entry.  Both pick up and drop off will take place at their production facility at 123 Commercial Ave. across from St. Julian's winery.  You must turn in four 12 oz. bottles by February 23rd.  Your entry should also include:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Name of beer
  • Style/category

Wort pick up will be held between noon and 2pm.  If you are interested in participating, contact Keither via phone (269.415.0145) or email (keith@2pawsbeer.com).

NHC 2014

We sent you a few updates in the last week regarding the registration process for both the conference and competition this June.  The one point we can't stress enough is that both events are restricted to AHA members only!  If you are not already a member, you should sign up immediately.

Gary Glass recently met with Basic Brewing Radio and gave a very thorough explanation of the whole process.  Check it out:

We will keep you as up-to-date as possible as we go into the next few months.  We are still in need of a theme for our club at the Club Night.  Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
