November Meeting and Other Announcements

November Meeting

This is a friendly reminder that we will be holding our monthly meeting this coming Monday, November 18th. As always, we will be meeting at Old Dog Tavern and will start promptly at 7:00pm as we have much to cover. Mark Pangle will be giving presentation on all-grain brewing. If you currently do extract or partial mash, this will be a good introduction to the process. If you already do all-grain, you might hear some new information or get a chance to share your experiences.

Kalamazoo Kup

Monday will also be the first opportunity to submit entries for the Kalamazoo Kup competition. For this inaugural year, this competition will be exclusively for KLOB members. You can submit 1 entry to any of the 23 major BJCP beer categories with a maximum to 3 total entries. You will need to submit two 12 ounce bottles for each entry. We will select one winner from each major category based on score as well as a "Best in Show". We will announce winners at the December 16th meeting.

If you are bringing your entries on Monday, we ask that you come a little early (6:45pm). When you submit your entries, we please ask that you complete both an entry/recipe as well as bottle ID forms.

There will be a cap of 80 entries for the entire competition so you'll want to submit yours as soon as possible. After Monday's meeting, you can drop off your entries to Tempo Vino until December 2nd. Entries will be evaluated by BJCP-certified judges. If you are a certified judge or know someone who is and would like to volunteer, please contact us. If we are short judges, we will nominate honorary judges to assist with the evaluations.

If you have any questions or would like to help volunteer, please please let us know. We look forward to all of your entries and a lively competition!

2014 Memberships

We will begin accepting memberships for 2014 starting at the November meeting. Dues will continue to be $15. We will be accepting CREDIT CARDS for the first time but you can also bring cash or check. If you register on Monday, we will have your 2014 membership card ready at the December meeting. Please try to come early as there will be many people signing up.

Remember, your membership in KLOB gives you all these great benefits and privileges:

  • Discounts at Bell's General Store, Tempo Vino Winery, Beer & Skittles, Tudor House Tea and more
  • Access club equipment like our all-grain brewstand, wine corker and jockey box
  • Check out hundreds of books and magazines from our club library

2014 Officers and Volunteers

In accordance with our bylaws, we will be holding nominations for candidates at the November meeting for our officers election at the December meeting. The four positions are president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.

If you are interested in helping the club thrive and grow but don't want to be an officer, we are also seeking volunteers for a number of positions and duties. If you have talent and time to spare, please contact us.

IPA Experiment

We had our project kick off at our Learn to Homebrew event. The goal is to brew several different batches based on a single common recipes while adjusting one or two ingredients. We will be sampling the results at the December meeting. There is still time if you want to participate.
